Arizona Style

It's that time again. Or, what I mean is, time to start writing. I got a few emails (hi, you know who you are! Thanks!) Asking what was up with me and where have I been and what about this and that. So.... you win.. and here I am. Of course, there have been a few changes. I'm currently living outside Phoenix, Arizona.. where I start my new job on.. well.. Monday. Like I said, a lot to catch up on.

The short of it is that I moved a few weeks ago.. I'm not in a big city, I have a job that I got a few days ago and I have tons of planning to do (yay, I'm a teacher now!) so.. while I want to start updating, it might be sparse until I get my feet under me. But start coming back and I'm going to start writing again. As usual, thanks for the feedback. I honestly had no idea anyone was all that interested. Hope you all are doing well and even with all the crazy going on around here I'm happy and well and life is generally good.

See you soon, same place, whatever time you click through.

Cheers,
Jenn

First Day

Today was the day. First day back at school for students. First day teaching for yours truly. Well, sorta. I actually had to go to human resources this morning instead of starting my first day straight off in the classroom. Someone covered for me though and it sounds like it was a great class.

You're still wondering about human resources, arent' you...? Well the long and short of it.. or just the short.. is that I was interviewed last Tuesday and unofficially offered the job straight after that as long as the district approved the position. What? I know. They found out that they were going to have a lot more freshmen than anyone thought. This translated into class sizes above 50 and closer to 60. I can't even imagine teaching that many.. neither could anyone else so the principal was proactive and found me (still considering two other offers) and had me in for an interview. So Wednesday morning we found out that there was a position and it was all me if I wanted it. Paperwork Friday, Contract Monday and straight into the classroom as soon as I could. Quick. Worn out yet? Me too.

Overall it was a great first day although my feet are tired. The biggest challenge for me right now is that I an now on the block schedule which means that I have 3 classes that run 90 minutes long. That is a long time for planning that I'm not used to, but it seems to be working. The nice thing is that I teach all the same class so I only plan once (so to speak) and I have the same kids all year (and they seem awesome) so that makes the number of names a lot smaller and the planning... well it might take less time. At least it's only one class.

I'm excited though and very positive about the whole thing. I'm also happy here and adjusting. One of these days I'll post about the move and how my mom discovered an unwelcome guest in our house the day I left. Good times.
